A 55 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for steel chine construction. Teddi Bear took the People's Choice award for best in show at the Anacortes TrawlerFest in May 2008, voted by the people walking the docks rather than by a panel. The Coasters were drawn for the Florida Bay Coaster Company and licensed to them; with that company closed the plans are sold directly to anyone who wants one built. They are freighter yachts: ship-shaped, shoal-draft liveaboards with house-sized accommodation, meant to be lived aboard rather than raced or day-sailed.
Benford publishes a displacement of 140,000 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
