15' Kanu
Designed by Boatkits
A 4.60 m open touring canoe, the middle boat of the Boatkits Canadian series and, by the firm's account, one that has been built in large numbers. It is sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue kit by the German-language shop of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. Beam is 0.86 m and weight about 28 kg. It handles easily with two paddlers and is rated for up to three people on weekend trips.
Boatkits calls it a good beginner's canoe and a good beginner's kit; no prior knowledge is required and the family can join in. Boatkits quotes 55 to 65 hours for hull and structure and says finishing adds 1 to 1.5 times that again, so budget roughly 110 to 160 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a 15' Kanu actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
