Angler's Day
Designed by Ashes Still Water Boats
A 15 ft by 34 in canoe that Ashes describes as its modern take on the Bob's Special, the stable, low windage fishing canoe the Chestnut Canoe Company of New Brunswick built from 1905 to 1979. Like the original she has a fine entry and moderate rocker over a broad, shallow arch bottom, which makes her a steady platform for fishing, photography or watching birds on backwaters, bays and winding rivers. Freeboard is modest and the ends are low, so she shrugs off wind but is not the boat for big open water.
The plans are among the most flexible Ashes sells. They show seat positions for one or two paddlers and offer a hard chine above the waterline as an alternative to the usual recurved tumblehome; nothing below the load line changes either way. Ashes is candid that she is a better solo than tandem, and suggests her for someone who mostly paddles alone but sometimes takes a passenger.
What building a Angler's Day actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
