15' Seekajak
Designed by Boatkits
A 4.60 m sea kayak sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue plywood kit by Boatkits, the kit arm of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. At 0.60 m it is the narrowest kayak in the range, built for speed and more demanding water than the firm's standard kayak. The plywood hull weighs about 22 kg, which Boatkits compares with expensive factory-built boats. A larger 16 ft version is also offered.
Boatkits says it is somewhat more complicated to build than its standard kayak, so a little patience helps. Boatkits quotes 60 to 70 hours for hull and structure and says finishing adds 1 to 1.5 times that again, so budget roughly 120 to 175 hours. Logged build times from this site follow below.
What building a 15' Seekajak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
