15' Okwata-Kajak
Designed by Boatkits
A 4.60 m touring kayak sold as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue kit by Boatkits, part of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. The page explains the name as a Native American word for wide water, once applied to Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans. It is a step up in performance from the firm's smallest kayak, 0.66 m wide and about 22 kg, drawn with comfort in mind for day trips and longer tours, and tolerant of varied loads.
The hull shape was chosen to make assembly straightforward. The kit house's figure is 60 to 70 hours to the bare hull, with finishing put at 1 to 1.5 times as much on top. Budget roughly 120 to 175 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
