Mushulu 14
Designed by Mark Bowdidge
The 4.26 m version of Mark Bowdidge's Mushulu skiff, from Bowdidge Marine Designs in Australia. She is 1.85 m in beam, draws about 150 mm and takes up to 30 hp with a portable tank. The designer asked for higher sides than usual and seating that leaves room for knees. Two sealed lockers sit inside the seats, the outer seat sections hold foam buoyancy, and the bow seat doubles as the anchor locker.
Like the 12, she was designed for a first-time builder, in plywood composite, with simplicity and low cost put first. The plan set is 11 sheets with full-size patterns, a manual and a materials list. The designer offers no hours; allow 180 to 320. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Mushulu 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
