Chesapeake Double
Designed by Chesapeake Light Craft
A 21 ft high-volume tandem touring kayak from Chesapeake Light Craft, developed from the Chesapeake single hull. It is 30 in wide, about 65 lb, and carries 700 lb, with a combined paddler weight of 300 to 600 lb. CLC says it can cover 35 miles in a day and recommends it as a base hull for the CLC SailRig. The 4 mm okoume hull is glassed inside and out. Kits and plans are sold.
CLC grades it a beginner project, and publishes the same 80 hour estimate it gives the Chesapeake singles; a boat this long may reasonably run past that. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Chesapeake Double actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
