Great Auk Double

Designed by Nick Schade

A 21 ft strip-planked tandem sea kayak by Nick Schade, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft. It is a reshaped stretch of the Great Auk with more volume in the ends and a higher bow, 26 in wide and about 56 lb, carrying 600 lb. CLC places it between the Guillemot Double and the Fast Double for speed and stability, with room for multi-day gear. Complete kits, forms kits and full-size plans are offered.

CLC rates it intermediate and estimates 200 hours, assuming the builder has a couple of stitch-and-glue boats behind them. Real hours from logged builds are below.
