Fast Double
Designed by Nick Schade
A 25 ft 6 in strip-planked tandem sea kayak from Nick Schade's Guillemot range, sold by Chesapeake Light Craft. It is only 21 in wide, about 58 lb, and carries 600 lb. CLC says it does well in races such as the Blackburn Challenge, tracks hard rather than turning quickly, and seats the paddlers far enough apart to use different cadences. It is aimed at experienced pairs. Kits and full-size plans are sold.
CLC rates it advanced, expecting traditional plan reading and stationary tools, and estimates 250 hours for someone who has already built a couple of boats. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Fast Double actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
