Nymph 12 Canoe
Designed by Nick Schade
A 12 ft strip-planked pack canoe by Nick Schade, sold as plans and kits by Chesapeake Light Craft. It is the Nymph 10 with its stations spread out to 12 ft for larger loads, in the tradition of J. Henry Rushton's ultralight solo canoes. It is paddled with a double blade from a kayak-style seat. Beam is 26-1/2 in, weight 25 to 30 lb in 1/4 in cedar strips, and it takes paddlers up to 210 lb with a 240 lb maximum payload. Thinner 3/16 in strips save more weight.
CLC grades it intermediate and estimates 110 hours, and the design is covered in Schade's book Building Strip-Planked Boats. Hours recorded by builders of this design are shown below.
What building a Nymph 12 Canoe actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
