A 12 ft recreational kayak drawn by Nick Schade and sold by Chesapeake Light Craft as a kit or as full-size plans. It is the stitch-and-glue plywood member of the Petrel family, based on the Petrel Play, only 26 in wide and about 36 lb, yet fitted out like a sea kayak with bulkheads, hatches and a cockpit that takes a spray skirt. Payload is 280 lb, so it suits children and large adults alike on sheltered water.
CLC rates it intermediate and notes the parts count is higher than a Wood Duck, so some stitch-and-glue experience helps. CLC's estimated build time is 100 hours; budget 100 to 140 for a first kayak. Real hours from logged builds are below.
