Peeler Skiff
Designed by John C. Harris
A 15 ft 2 in flat-bottomed outboard skiff by John C. Harris of Chesapeake Light Craft, based on the traditional Chesapeake crab skiff and named after the local word for soft-shell crabs. It is meant for 8 to 15 hp, seats four adults and carries 1,000 lb on a 75 in beam, with a hull weight of 313 lb. CLC measured 23 knots with 15 hp, but puts the sweet spot at 11 to 12 knots fully loaded. Foam-filled tanks give over 1,200 lb of flotation.
Stitch and glue, from a kit with puzzle joints and slotted bulkheads or from plans using about nine sheets of plywood. CLC rates it a beginner project and estimates 200 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Peeler Skiff actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
