Play
Designed by Nick Schade
A 16 ft 6 in strip-planked kayak from Nick Schade's Guillemot line, sold through Chesapeake Light Craft as a complete kit, forms-only kit or plans. It is a low-volume play boat for waves and surf: a wide flat bottom for quick turns, 22 in beam, about 38 lb, and a low aft deck that the page says makes it the easiest of the Guillemots to roll. Knee room is tight, so it suits smaller paddlers, with a 250 lb payload.
Cedar strip building over forms and a strongback asks for patience and comfort with a plane and pull saw. CLC rates it intermediate and estimates 150 hours; a first strip build often runs 150 to 300. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Play actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
