Resolute
Designed by Steve Killing
Bear Mountain asked for the Resolute after heavier and broader paddlers said they wanted a shorter boat that still fit them. Steve Killing's answer is 16 ft 6 in long with a beam of about 25.5 in and a cockpit widened to match at 30.5 by 18 in. The hull is a very shallow V, the flattest of the Bear Mountain kayaks, to get stability from width while keeping displacement moderate, and the stern rocker is reduced to help her track.
Average load is 260 pounds, and Bear Mountain says she will take up to 340 pounds without trouble, which makes her a good fit for a novice, a larger paddler or someone carrying camping gear. She is a strip built cedar kayak expected to finish at 45 to 50 pounds, built over station moulds with a separately strip planked deck. For a lighter paddler wanting more speed, the Endeavour 17 is the sleeker choice.
What building a Resolute actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
