Wood Duck 14 Hybrid

Designed by Eric Schade

A 13 ft 9 in recreational kayak that pairs the roomy stitch-and-glue hull of Eric Schade's Wood Duck 14 for Chesapeake Light Craft with a cedar-strip deck. It keeps the 30 in beam, 49 1/2 in cockpit and 400 lb payload of the plywood boat, aimed at paddlers of 200 to 350 lb, and weighs about 52 lb. Complete kits, wood-only kits and plans with manual are available.

The hull goes together like any Wood Duck, then the deck is strip planked, which is why CLC rates it intermediate rather than beginner. CLC's estimate is 120 hours; budget 100 to 160 depending on the deck pattern. Real hours from logged builds are below.
