Pond Skipper 14
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 13 ft 9.5 in plywood kayak by Sam Devlin, meant for exercise, birding and poking around very shallow water. Stitch and glue in 4 mm marine plywood, 2 ft 6 in beam, only 36 lb, and able to carry a paddler of up to 250 lb. The designer keeps two aboard his own cruising boat as launch-over-the-side tenders and describes it as a car-top or mothership kayak for local exploring. A simple plywood kit is available on request.
Devlin calls the building easy and suggests it as a winter-evening project, so it suits a first build. Budget 60 to 100 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Pond Skipper 14 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
