Dentex 420
Designed by Cristian Pilo
A 4.2 m sit-on-top kayak by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, described by the designer as his best seller. The wide 80 cm hull sits low on the water, is very stable and carries a heavy load, which makes it a natural kayak-fishing platform or a relaxed coastal explorer without a closed cockpit. It weighs about 22 kg, suits paddlers of 70 to 95 kg and has a recommended maximum load of 170 kg. Plans come as PDF through Nautikit.
It is built stitch and glue from 4 mm okoume plywood like the rest of the designer's kayaks. Cristian Pilo rates the family for builders with basic woodworking experience and quotes 60 to 85 hours depending on skill. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Dentex 420 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
