Mud Peep 12
Designed by Sam Devlin
An 11 ft 11 in decked sailing skiff by Sam Devlin, built stitch and glue along the lines of an old duck-hunting skiff. The deck, unusual in a boat this small, gives protected storage and reserve buoyancy, and a sprit rig with leeboards keeps things simple. Beam is 3 ft 8 in, draft 4 in, weight 83 lb and maximum load 425 lb, and it can be rowed as well as sailed.
Study and construction plans are sold. A light hull of this size is a manageable first project, with the deck, leeboards and spars adding some time. As a rule of thumb, budget 80 to 160 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Mud Peep 12 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
