SCAMP
Designed by John Welsford
An 11 ft 11 in pocket cruiser by John Welsford, commissioned by Small Craft Advisor magazine, with further development by Kees Prins and kit adaptation by Turn Point Design. It packs in an offset centerboard, a water ballast tank holding 173 lb, large sealed flotation in the seats and stowage cabin, and a cuddy 'veranda' that works like a hard dodger. The flat bottom and skegs let it sit upright on a beach. Beam is 5 ft 4 in, draft 7 in board up, and weight 420 lb with rig.
Plywood construction from seven sheets of plans with a separate building guide; kits exist. Budget 400 to 700 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a SCAMP actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
