Scarlet Macaw 33
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 32 ft 11 in fast diesel launch by Sam Devlin, built as Onamuni for Al Hatfield to run guests 26 miles up Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota. Twin 260 hp Yanmar diesels gave 40 mph on sea trials, and about 3 miles per gallon at 18 mph. Beam is 10 ft, draft 20.5 in, displacement 11,500 lb, with bow and stern thrusters, inside and outside helms and seating for eight. Devlin describes the low, raked styling as a chopped version of his usual look.
Only study plans are listed. A twin-diesel boat finished to this level is a major project for an experienced builder, and a rule-of-thumb estimate is 4,000 to 6,000 hours or more. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Scarlet Macaw 33 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
