Bigakat 12
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 3.72 m (12 ft 2 in) beach catamaran by Dudley Dix, the larger sister of his 9 ft Oppikat junior cat. The upper hull sides, decks and bulkheads are 4 mm plywood, while the lower sides and bottoms are 6 mm cedar strip sheathed in glass and epoxy. It weighs about 95 kg, carries an 84 sq ft fully battened main plus a small jib, and uses fixed keels drawing 10.5 in instead of daggerboards.
Dix says it needs moderate woodworking skills and suggests it as a family or school project. Each hull is built upside down over bulkheads on a board that fits a workbench. A GRP version is also mentioned. Budget 200 to 350 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
