Coquette 39
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 12.0 m (39 ft 4 in) fast cruising sloop by Dudley Dix, narrow and light at 5,870 kg, tiller steered with a transom-hung rudder and masthead rig. It can be built in multi-chine plywood with a radiused topside chine, or round bilge in cold moulded timber, C-Flex or cored GRP. Optional planing boards take it past 41 ft. The page quotes an owner who logged a 215 mile day and 17.6 knots between Cape Town and St Helena.
Dix drew it to be built at reasonable cost, with longitudinal framing over widely spaced bulkheads for a fair hull. It is still a big project for an experienced amateur. Expect 5,000 to 7,000 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Coquette 39 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
