Didi 120
Designed by Dudley Dix
A 12.0 m (39 ft 4 in) radius chine plywood racer cruiser by Dudley Dix, an update of his Didi 40cr commissioned by a racing skipper who had built a 40cr2. Compared with the slim Didi 38/40 it has 400 mm more beam, firmer bilges, a deeper bulb keel drawing 2.63 m and a bigger rig of 905 sq ft, on 6,310 kg displacement. The design holds ISO registration for Category A ocean use. A cruising rig and keel are planned for later.
The drawings are detailed for amateur builders and use the proven Didi plywood methods, but a 12 m offshore racer is a job for a committed and capable builder. Expect 6,000 to 8,000 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Didi 120 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
