Oppikat

Designed by Dudley Dix

A 9 ft (2.75 m) training catamaran by Dudley Dix, sized so children can learn cat sailing one or two up, with room for an adult to teach aboard. At 1.7 m beam and about 40 kg it car-tops fully assembled. Integral shallow keels replace daggerboards, the rudders are fixed, and the sleeve-luffed, fully battened 48 sq ft mainsail has no boom. It was conceived for fiberglass production.

Since 2007 there is wood detailing: cedar strip with light glass on the rounded bottoms and plywood topsides, decks and keels, built over plywood bulkheads. The designer rates this version for reasonably skilled amateurs, and bulkhead or full wood parts kits are offered. Budget 150 to 300 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
