Swift Swoose
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Swift Swoose is William Jackson's powered catamaran, Craft Print Project No. 199, described as an adaptation of a Polynesian outrigger: 10 ft overall, 5 ft 1/2 in beam, 22 in deep and 150 lb, seating four. Air through the tunnel between the hulls lifts her so that she rides on a small patch of bottom, and the article claims up to 45 mph with 5 to 25 hp outboards.
She is plywood over a fir framework with oak or yellow pine longitudinals, built upside down on a rectangular form with the hull sides exactly 60 in apart, using Weldwood glue and galvanized nails or screws. Photographs show the form and frames. The scan is free, and the wide beam was the article's main safety argument.
What building a Swift Swoose actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
