Airboat

Designed by Glen-L Marine

A 12 ft 9 in swamp airboat from Glen-L Marine, a flat-bottomed plywood scow driven by an airplane-type propeller on an air-cooled VW Beetle engine, with above-water rudders, for skimming inches of water and vegetation. The plans cover the engine stand, guard, steering and controls as well as the hull. Glen-L publish a beam of 7 ft 0 in and a hull depth of 14 in.

The bare hull comes out at about 265 lb. They put the usual load at 1 to 2 people. The hull is a flat bottom scow, developed for sheet plywood planking. For power they specify vW Beetle air cooled engine, driving an airplane-type propeller. They draw a matching trailer for her. No building form, no curves to speak of; the engine work is the interesting part. Budget 150 to 300 hours plus the drive. Measured medians from logged builds appear below.
