Truant was drawn for people who want to play hookey, and specifically for cold water: Welsford had been to WoodenBoat's office in Brooklin, Maine, in January, swum in Eggemoggin Reach and formed a view about winter sailing there. She is a capable daysailer with enough performance to be fun, small enough for a garden trailer rather than a custom one, and big enough to take a couple of less limber adults with their picnic or camping gear, or a small mob of teenagers.
An 11 ft 6 in sailing dinghy drawn for stability, beamy at 5 ft 4 in for her length so she stands up to her 80 sq ft without drama. About 70 kg, and meant to be the boat somebody learns on and then keeps.
