Idea 850
Designed by Cristian Pilo
An 8.53 m fast cruiser-racer by Cristian Pilo of Modern Wooden Boat, 9.70 m overall with the fixed bowsprit. The beamy 3.18 m hull is chined over two thirds of its length, with a fixed fin carrying a 600 kg lead bulb at 1.90 m draft and and 43.3 or 51 square metres of sail in cruise or regatta form. Light displacement is 2,150 kg, there are five berths plus one and 1.85 m headroom, and power is a 20 hp inboard diesel or electric drive.
The hull is strip planked and sheathed with biaxial glass inside and out, with stitch and glue plywood deck and cabin; the steel fin needs welding. Expect 3,000 to 5,000 hours over several years. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Idea 850 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
