Core Sound 21
Designed by Salt Boatworks
The boat that started Salt Boatworks. Founder Adam Parchman, who grew up fishing North Carolina's Crystal Coast, could not find plans for the boat he wanted after graduating from NC State in 2009, so he designed and built this one himself with advice from experienced builders and naval architects; the company followed in 2016. Its lines come from the Harkers Island workboats, with the pronounced Carolina flare at the bow and a modified vee bottom.
She is a 21.5 ft by 8 ft center console for inshore and nearshore fishing, drawing about 8.5 in at 2,000 lb and taking up to 150 hp for a 30 to 35 mph cruise. Construction is cold molded marine plywood over a plywood jig of stringers, frames, bulkhead and transom, with the skins cut to fit during assembly. Plans give full-size patterns for the jig; the jig kit supplies it CNC cut, and an assembly video exists.
What building a Core Sound 21 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
