Flats River Skiff 12
Designed by Salt Boatworks
A one-person micro skiff that Salt Boatworks describes as part paddleboard, part kayak and part jon boat. She is 11 ft 8 in long and 4 ft wide, draws about 4 in fully loaded, weighs roughly 100 lb and fits between the wheel arches of a full-size pickup bed. Reverse chines built into the hull sides give her the stability to stand and pole or paddle, and she will take a trolling motor or an outboard of up to 6 hp, which pushes her at 16 to 18 mph.
Construction is stitch and glue from four sheets of 3/16 in okoume or meranti, and the plans include full-size patterns so nothing has to be lofted. The designers put the build at about 50 hours and under $1,000, and there is a free how-to video series. Sold as plans only, since the parts are cheaper to cut at home than to CNC and ship.
