Flats River Skiff 16
Designed by Salt Boatworks
Salt Boatworks pitches this one as the all-rounder of the series, a 16 ft 7 in by 6 ft 3 in skiff for fishing, hunting and general use with up to four people. Flush decks fore and aft give a proper flats-boat layout with storage underneath for fuel, battery and gear, the hull draws about 9 in with a typical load, and moderate deadrise copes with a light chop.
She can be run as an ultralight tiller boat on a 50 hp or fitted with a side or center console for up to 70 hp; the published speeds are about 28 mph on 50 hp and 38 on 70. Capacity is 1,100 lb. The hull is stitch and glue, mostly 3/8 in meranti or fir marine plywood, and is a step up in materials from the smaller skiffs. Plans come with full-size patterns, or the plywood kit supplies the panels CNC cut. She is also the basis for the cold-molded Carolina Bay 17.
