Stow-Away 8.5
Designed by Spirited Designs
Largest of the Stow-Away power and sail range, the 8.5 m version has full standing headroom throughout and is sized to fit an ordinary monohull marina berth. The layout is drawn for a couple with two children, with an L-shaped galley and dinette in the bridgedeck, a double and a head in one hull and two singles in the other; an alternative plan puts a king double in the main cabin.
Steering is central, which suits the motor sailer idea, with twin wheels as an option, and there is a choice of shade top. Single or twin 50 hp outboards give about 20 knots, while a compact 42 square metre rig keeps sail handling simple. The aft deck can be set up for seating or for fishing. Built in DuFLEX or plain foam, she is estimated at about 1,550 hours.
What building a Stow-Away 8.5 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
