Surfsong

Designed by Richard Woods

An 8.4 m (27 ft 6 in) deep vee cruising catamaran from Richard Woods of Woods Designs, the smallest of his deep vee family. Flat panel hulls in sheet plywood or GRP with plywood decks. Beam 5.1 m, about 1.75 tonnes empty, 35 sq m of sail, 1.5 m headroom and seating for four in each hull, with a rigid self-draining cockpit and wing seats. A coastal cruiser and racer that one couple lived aboard in the Mediterranean for years.

Deep vee hulls need no daggerboard cases and go together from flat panels. Woods's minimum is 1,200 hours to a basic fit out ready to paint for a practised builder, so a first-timer might budget 1,800 to 2,800. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
