Kick Power Catamaran
Designed by Vintage Projects
One of the odder plans in the collection: a small catamaran you drive by lying on the deck with your feet in toe clips, kicking paddles along while steering with a rudder at the front. Twin hulls give it the stability the arrangement needs. Convert it to sail and the paddles are lashed up out of the water, the hand grips come off the rudder, a tiller goes on, and the skipper turns around so the rudder is at the stern.
The pontoons are built of plain lumber nailed with galvanized nails about an inch apart and caulked with cotton tape bedded in marine or casein glue or white lead, with plywood centreboards screwed to the inside of each hull. The page gives no dimensions. These are free plans from an old magazine, best treated as a fun curiosity for a calm lake.
What building a Kick Power Catamaran actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
