Tramp
Designed by Vintage Projects
Tramp is a 15 ft knockabout sailboat in plywood, offered as a free reprint of a vintage magazine article that wasted no time getting to the building. Stem, transom and side planks are cut first and the forms assembled; the forms can be made of any scrap, or a confident builder can skip them and make accurately bevelled permanent frames instead.
The side planks are joined with a butt strap set in casein or waterproof glue, an oak frame is screwed inside the transom and notched for the keel batten, and the transom goes on last, bevelled so the planks sit tight against the cleats. White lead and cotton thread go between planks, stem and transom, which marks the plans as a period piece; a modern builder would almost certainly use epoxy instead. A simple project for someone who wants a real sailboat without a cabin.
What building a Tramp actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
