A 5.9 m folding power catamaran from Richard Woods of Woods Designs, his first powercat, drawn as an island water taxi for his own use in British Columbia. Semi-displacement asymmetric hulls in plywood over stringers and frames, glass and epoxy sheathed. The 3.85 m beam folds to 8 ft on the trailer and opens by itself as the boat floats off. A single 25 to 30 hp outboard gives 15 knots, and the small cabin holds a double berth and galley.
The hulls are light enough for two people to lift and fit an ordinary garage. Woods's minimum is 800 hours to a basic fit out ready to paint for a practised builder, so budget 1,000 to 1,500 first time. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
