Designed by Richard Woods
A 4.5 m performance daysailing trimaran by Richard Woods of Woods Designs, his idea of a dinghy for older knees. Stitch and glue hard-chine main hull with flat plywood decks, 3.35 m beam, 14.6 sq m rig, about 135 kg empty. The outriggers fold forward to 2.2 m for trailing with the mast left standing, or simpler drop-in beams can be used. The 1.8 m cockpit sleeps one under a tent for raid-style events, and a Laser rig is an option.
Woods estimates 150 hours ready to paint and planned the job in two hour steps to suit evenings after work. His prototype main hull was complete at 100 hours. The folding beam system is the fiddly part. Real hours from logged builds are below.
