Vardo

Designed by Richard Woods

A 10.4 m (34 ft) hard-chine plywood cruising catamaran from Richard Woods of Woods Designs, placed between his Romany and Flica: more comfort than the first, more pace than the second. The hulls are enlarged Saturn hulls with extra freeboard, under a compact Romany-style bridgedeck cabin, with low aspect ratio keels. Beam 6.1 m, about 3 tonnes empty, 64.4 sq m of sail, 1.9 m headroom. Several interior layouts work so long as the main bulkheads stay put.

One owner built his in a small, low garage, and the page links his detailed blog. Woods's minimum is 2,700 hours to a basic fit out ready to paint for a practised builder, so budget 3,500 to 5,500 first time. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
