Solo Trip
Designed by Ashes Still Water Boats
Same length as the Solo Day but a different boat underneath. The Solo Trip is 15 ft by 33 in, wider, with more freeboard and more flare in the forward and after quarters, so she carries a camping load and stays drier in a chop. Her rocker helps her keep her feet in current and off the back of a wave, at the cost of a little straight-line tracking when she is empty and a bit more side exposed to the wind.
Trevor Paetkau traces the idea to a cold October portage in Algonquin Park, watching older paddlers stride past with light solo boats while his own party wrestled heavy tandem canoes, and he drew her once his children were grown. Ashes suggests her for solo trippers who carry gear or paddle larger water. The hull is cedar strip with stemless ends, and the plans arrive as full size sheets without step by step instructions.
What building a Solo Trip actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
