Flat-bottomed boats of 10 to 12 m with two or three chines and a centreboard are popular in France, where the alloy OVNIs are the obvious example, and are liked by people who make long and demanding passages. They never caught on in Italy for reasons of looks rather than function, and the English-speaking market has its own idea of a blue water yacht, which is narrow, heavy, deep and low in the centre of gravity. Lodigiani is honest that he would not call the Sphera a blue water boat, and would want something else for a storm off Cape Horn.
A 9.94 m centreboard cruiser of the flat bottomed, multi chine kind the French have long liked for serious long distance sailing, where taking the ground upright matters more than pointing. Chine plywood, an expert build.
