Chinook 21
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 20 ft 9 in displacement pocket cruiser by Sam Devlin with an 18 hp Yanmar diesel mounted at the stern. She cruises at 6 knots on about half a gallon an hour. The pilothouse has 5 ft 6 in headroom, a double berth and room for a portable toilet, and the controls are outside on the house so the cabin is left free for sleeping. A small steadying sail doubles as an awning support. At 2,700 lb she trailers easily.
Devlin has not drawn home-builder plans, so only study plans and yard builds are available. Inboard diesel installation makes this a job for someone with experience. As a rule of thumb, allow 1,200 to 1,800 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Chinook 21 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
