Stillaguamish Tribe 36 Foot Canoe
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 36 ft canoe that Sam Devlin designed for the Stillaguamish Tribe of Washington State, completed at the Devlin shop in August 2025. It is the larger of two canoes commissioned over about two years, the other being 26 ft. The Devlin site says the pair take the shaping of plywood into complex forms to a new level. MacKenzie Devlin led the construction, assisted by tribal builders Brian and Nathan.
This was a commissioned project and the site lists no plans, dimensions or build-time figure for it. A plywood hull this long with demanding panel shapes is work for an experienced crew, and a rule-of-thumb guess would be well over 1,000 hours.
