Bo Jest
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 17 ft 10 in tug-style pocket cruiser from Glen-L Marine, praised in WoodenBoat's Small Boats for being big enough to live in for a few days and small enough to avoid moorage costs. A pilothouse with standing headroom and all-round visibility, walk-around decks, a self-draining cockpit and a 7 ft berth in the trunk cabin. Sheet plywood, 5 to 10 hp inboard or outboard for 5 to 8 knots. Glen-L publish a beam of 7 ft 11 in and a draft of 21 in.
The bare hull comes out at about 800 lb. Displacement is 2660. Headroom below is 6'-1" to 6'-4". The hull is a hard chine semi-displacement vee-bottom with skeg, developed for sheet plywood planking. They draw a matching trailer for her. A charming and quite manageable plywood build. Budget 600 to 1,000 hours over one to two years. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Bo Jest actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
