Dory
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 15 ft 6 in rowing dory from Glen-L Marine in three-eighths plywood, the classic narrow-bottomed, flare-sided surf boat brought down to a fraction of the traditional weight. It is built upside down over scrap-wood molds that are thrown away afterwards, which leaves a clean, frame-free interior.
Squarely a beginner's boat, and Glen-L says as much: within reach of almost any handy person and not a long job. Expect around 80 to 160 hours. Measured hours and elapsed months from logged builds appear below.
What building a Dory actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
