Bella 16
Designed by Sam Devlin
The largest of Sam Devlin's three Bella skiffs at 15 ft 8 in, still only 3 ft 10 in in beam. She is first of all a pulling boat, able to carry three people under oars or more under a small outboard of about 2.5 hp. The materials list is short: four sheets of 1/4 in plywood plus a few odds and ends.
The hull goes together stitch and glue, upright and without a building jig, which saves time and lumber and keeps it within reach of a first-time builder. Budget 60 to 110 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Bella 16 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
