Rob Roy
Designed by Glen-L Marine
A 14 ft 5 in stitch-and-glue canoe from Glen-L Marine that pairs round-bottom canoe ends with a vee-bottomed chined midsection for stability and load. Two sheets of 4 mm or 5 mm plywood build it, which is why it is so light; Glen-L warns against using stiffer quarter-inch stock.
In Glen-L's words, if you cannot build this boat you probably cannot build any boat. Full-size patterns for every part, no lofting or layouts. Budget 40 to 80 hours. Stitch-and-glue and fiberglass kits are available. Measured build times from logs are below.
What building a Rob Roy actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
