Bevin's Skiff
Designed by Joe Youcha
An 11 ft 8 in flat-bottomed rowing skiff designed in 1997 by Joe Youcha and his team at the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, with plywood kits cut by Chesapeake Light Craft. It is 54 in wide, about 120 lb, carries 450 lb and can take an optional sailing rig. It is a mainstay of school programmes and family boatbuilding events, built in nearly every US state and at least 10 countries. The manual is a free download.
It is built like a traditional work skiff, with no lofting, molds or special tools, but builders mill the solid timber parts from local stock, so CLC rates it intermediate. CLC estimates 80 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Bevin's Skiff actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
