A 12 ft recreational kayak that Chesapeake Light Craft commissioned from Eric Schade, and which CLC calls its most popular recreational kayak. The stitch-and-glue okoume hull is 30 in wide and about 40 lb, with a 38 in cockpit, four bulkheads, a rear hatch and a 350 lb payload, enough for a 275 lb paddler plus gear. Tracking in crosswinds and real cruising speed are the stated aims. Kits come with an okoume or sapele deck, and plans are sold.
One of CLC's easiest builds: puzzle-jointed panels, pre-drilled stitch holes, a separately assembled deck. Rated beginner with a CLC estimate of 80 hours. Budget 70 to 110. Real hours from logged builds are below.
