Wood Duck 12 Hybrid
Designed by Eric Schade
A 12 ft recreational kayak combining the stitch-and-glue plywood hull of Eric Schade's Wood Duck 12 for Chesapeake Light Craft with a cedar-strip deck. Hull and underbody are identical to the standard boat: 30 in beam, about 40 lb, a 38 in cockpit and a 350 lb payload for paddlers of 80 to 250 lb. CLC pitches it at builders who want to design their own strip patterns. Sold as a complete kit, wood-only kit or plans with manual.
Intermediate by CLC's rating, because the deck is stripped and faired rather than cut from a sheet. CLC estimates 120 hours, against 80 for the plywood version. Budget 100 to 150. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Wood Duck 12 Hybrid actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
