Bay Skipper 18
Designed by Sam Devlin
An 18 ft 1 in decked double-paddle and sculling boat by Sam Devlin, drawn for a customer who wanted one hull for Florida's thin waters that could take two kayak paddlers or a single rower on a drop-in sliding seat. The seat unit fastens with two bolts. The hull is 2 ft 11 in wide, weighs about 76 lb dry and has an oval cockpit coaming with a deck that adds reserve freeboard.
Devlin describes the stitch and glue build as fast and easy, and the light hull is manageable for one person, so it is a reasonable first boat. Budget 80 to 140 hours as a rule of thumb, more for a bright finish. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Bay Skipper 18 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
